Question

What do critics say about the effectiveness of hypnotism when used to control smoking?

2 Answer

  • "Hypnosis works and the empirical support is unequivocal in that regard. It really does help people," says Michael Yapko, PhD, a psychologist and fellow of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. "But hypnosis isn’t a therapy in and of itself. Most people wouldn’t regard it that way."
  • Scientists say to be wary. "Green says hypnosis may help smokers quit, but more research needs to be done". Any claims being made of definite success, are no claims on the effectiveness of hypnotism when used to control smoking, that have been backed up by proof and studies. They say to just be on gad, and question it. Science still has yet to study this effect.
